Arts Monthly, a free publication with informative editorials and extensive calendar listings, available the first Sunday of the month. www.sfArts.org.

Entertainment sections and expanded weekend listings on Fridays in the morning edition and the Sunday Datebook section of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Two free alternative papers, the Bay Guardian and the SF Weekly, list performances and other unusual, edgy events. Copies are available on nearly every street corner on Wednesdays.

The gay-oriented B.A.R., which comes out on Thursday, is available in bookstores and coffeehouses.
